As a German, watching that at the time, I can tell you I was scared to have Messi standing over the ball in that spot. We got lucky.

Nobody can blame him, he had all of his fans in his back and mind while preparing to execute the free kick. I can't imagine how extreme his anxiety should be at that right moment. That's why even if I am not Argentinian I am praying for Messi to lift the damn trophy for them.
