  • Man, I love star wars since I was a kid. I am a girl, and I looked up to luke not being overtaken by all the darkness in his life. A man who didn't know his parents, fought for everything he got, and even when he was losing he was winning in the end. He taught me perseverance, even when shit hits the fan you got to trudge through it. He taught me that even when you face your demons that are stronger than you, you can still win without resorting to the darker things of life. Rei, a female who is suppose to be a role model for females taught me that if you have a certain bloodline you can know everything and do everything and be a little shit. So, yea I think I will go with luke on this one since I am probably born to sheep herders etc, and don't come from wealth.

We don’t have 800-page novels, we don’t have anything other than passionate storytellers who get together and talk about what the next iteration might be. We go through a really normal development process that everybody else does."

    • It's weird how people thought the prequel trilogy was bad, when in fact, it opened the door to the origins of both Obi Wan and Luke Skywalker. Not to mention shined a bit of light on how the empire was made, why the Jedi Order fell, and why the Sith rose to power. (And led to the creation of the Clone Wars series). Honestly, as a fan, I'm glad I was born in the "Lucas Era" and got to see the good parts of Star Wars. Before whatever tf Disney decided to do with it eve occurred smh

  • They finally pushed her all the way out of the way when they brought in Dave Filoni as executive creative director for Lucasfilm. His animated shows are much more beloved by the fans than any of the sequels. ANIMATED shows...taken more seriously than sequel movies. Because storytelling is the number one job; not "diversity", not social justice, not pushing a cultural agenda. People turn to entertainment mostly to escape the stresses of reality, not to be pummeled in the face by more social and political agendas. Filoni and Favreau know how to tell great stories, develop interesting characters, and stay true to the original material while still making it relevant for modern viewers. Kennedy should be home collecting unemployment at this point.

  • I finally watched Rogue One for the very first time and by Golly! It does save Disney-fied Star Wars from total wokish disaster. It's even a pretty good movie, not only a "passable " effort. I loved its gritty, rough-edged look which conveys the proper image of a rebellion conducted from the bottom up. The heroine is not a ridiculous, bland, totally personality-devoid, Mary Sue goddess impossibly perfect, infinitely potent, who can't cross any ark because nothing, infinitely safe or extremely dangerous situations change anything for her since nothing affects her in any way. Rey is a new archetype in fiction works: a singularity in the universe enacted by a creature with the features of a young, asexual mouth-breathing woman to which nothing of any consequence ever happens, a perfect Teflon-coated chick whose raison d'être, I guess, was, so naively, to create a feminine role model for young Disneyfied teenage girls of the 21st century. Big mistake, of course, since centuries of literature have shown that God-like figures don't make relevant models. What's the point of such perfect, drab, unreachably perfect figures if nobody could dream of even attaining a meager quantum of their qualities? By trying to tell young women in development: look at Rey Palpatine! Her Emperor genes, crossed with err, some woman who might have had counterbalancing "good deed genes" (!!) have made of her a Goddess: as infinitely potent as Jupiter, as infinitely benevolent as Jesus, as sexy as an empty Bordeaux bottle,. Why don't you try emulating her? In the land of the American dream, where, of course, hard work and good ethics can make you become as rich as Bezos or Musk! No tricks, no twist: it's all in you. Everyone can access the force! Just look at Rey Palpatine,! Enough BS and back to Rogue One. I was pleased, at last to see that Disney could make proper f***ing and procreate something worthwhile, something reasonably solid to make it cinematographic and reasonably uncringy. The droid's humor was mature and intelligent, the main protagonists believable, relatable and human, and the depiction of the Resistance on the ground, in the midst of the Empire on the rise on a scale that is massive but not ridiculous and incomprehensible as that seen in the sequel trilogy (especially the Rise of Mary Sue-Palpatine , err, sorry the Rise of Skywalker. In any case, I had pretty good, authentic SW vibes while watching Rogue One. And, most importantly, I didn't feel my stomach burn with too many "They fly now?" "Yep. They fly, now!" réparties. Overall, an honest, solid episode that is more canon than any of the dreadful sequel trilogy so. 7 through 9.

  • I'm 64 years old now, and have been a hard core Star Fan, both "Wars" and Trek since they were invented, and I cannot agree more strongly with TCD-bravo. This combination of political correctness, pseudo feminism and look-at-us-how-clever sexual fluidity has all but destroyed the genre, and has killed off our much beloved lore that has landed us on the moon and beyond; given us flying cars, Dick Tracey watches and medical magic. Us ancients had long ago cooked up the delicious meals with gender bending, colour shaping, interracial AND interspecies bonking, and we thought it cool in the 1960's and we've been there, and done that, so we don't need it poked into our faces. I personally am not responsible for the demise of humanity simply due to having the curse of having a penis and I resent the continual implication of my sex's natural tendency towards evil for fun's sake. It is not the project manager's fault in entirety for manifesting rubbish pixels; it is the higher management who overlook talented executives, promote mediocrity, false flags and fabricated Gods while ignoring the hard data-us. We are the customers, and the upper echelon management have both ignored us and insulted our intelligence and gender.

    • @kylethedalek Diversity in films isn't the problem, SJW pandering is. The Mandalorian is made up of a completely diverse cast and crew, and all of them work together in synergy to make a great story and characters. The main protagonist and main villain are played by POCs. Cara, Fennec, and Ahsoka are all played by women of color who don't need identity politics to appeal to fans; fans like their characters because they're well written and well acted. The sequel trilogy, in contrast, was advertised on social media to include diversity at the expense of a competent story and characters. Rose was an utterly useless diversion whose presence had zero meaningful effect on the plot, Finn was tragically underused when he could have had one of the most compelling character arcs as a former imperial-turned-rebel, and Rey is just an avatar for modern feminism whose abilities outclass other characters' by virtue of being female. There's a clear difference between diversity resulting from hiring capable and talented people, and diversity resulting from hiring just anyone who fulfills a "woke" quota.

  • Kathleen Kennedy reminds of all the smirking incompetent female bosses I’ve ever had. There’s a TV series on Disney+ that chronicles the behind the scenes activities and development of the TV series The Mandolorian called “Star Wars Gallery” in which she joins a round table discussion with Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. The disdain Jon has for her is so obvious and so palpable it’s hilarious. He absolutely despises her. Dave on the other hand just refuses to even look at her. She looks like the clued out girl from HR. I’m certain the head of Disney can shut down her little vanity project. There’s an old saying in Hollywood “there’s only one or two ways to say yes, but there are a thousand ways to say no.” Besides, who the hell wants to work with her?

  • The "TH" in Kathleen reminds me of a sith name. Like Darth Vader. She really leaned into the whole sith concept of there being only 2. But now that the leadership is going back to the light she cant let go of her destructive ideals. So weird how life and fiction parallel each other.

  • Absolutely brilliant breakdown of KK's rise and fall. Love you and MauLer. You both are able to articulate the criticism of Star Wars that I wish I had the English proficiency and literary mind to do. Thank you for so elegantly and eloquently voicing my thoughts and feelings about Disney Star Wars (and doing so while not taking 2 hours of my life, like MauLer often does :p). Much love from a Mexican fan.

  • Wow. That was so insightful, empathetic, and brutal! But wait, are you saying that Rey was the "lead character" in TFA? That never occurred to me, I just kept waiting for heroes to appear but they never did, so I concluded it was basically a film about nothing. So they made a villain the "lead character" in a Star Wars film, that is pretty outrageous.

  • When you watch Sci-fi, you're trying to escape this world. When you stir in politics it pulls you right out of that immersive space. Bad writing does that too. That's Kathleen's StarWars.

  • George Lucas used a lot of mythologists to help him write the stories. I know Joseph Campbell had a big influence on him. The stories explored timeless, human themes that transcended moral or ethical ethnocentrism. That's been muddled.

  • I remember looking forward to seeing Star Wars. I remember waiting in line for an hour to see the original. I was always excited to see all of the Star Wars movies when I was a kid. I was pumped when the prequels came out. This was my kids first exposure to the Star Wars universe. Even though they weren't as good as the original trilogy, we still enjoyed them. Can't say the same about the sequels. I watched them and they left me flat. My kids didn't even care for them.

    • @Knute Knoll yeah i don’t think that art belongs in STEM, but i’m not making a big deal out of it because there are other issues that i should be caring about. even today, it’s still important to include women in workspaces because even though we are allowed to access different industries, we are still treated unjustly. i would recommend searching up “gender inequality affects everyone vic gov”. it has some helpful statistics. but overall i do think that art shouldn’t be included in stem, but it is still a great subject that deserves recognition.

  • the best thing about the original starwars trilogy is that people pushed back against Lucas and he listened. It lead to some of the most powerful scenes. It's because they had diversity of character and beliefs, instead of a bunch of people that all look different but think the same.

  • Whenever I think of Kennedy's new project, I want to expload. Intentionally bombing one of the best movie franchises is one thing, but breaking every rule Disney has on her to get a new film that she has no ideas for out there? I think she's crossed a line here. One, what gain does she even have now? And two, at this point she's just openly destroying Lucasfilm and causing as much damage to Disney as possible.

    Joshua MaruffiJoshua Maruffi7 ай бұрын
  • Honestly, being able to spot an opportunity to make loads of money is a very useful skill. Kennedy had a good thing going before she let her ego get the better of her. Classic case of wanting to have your cake and eat it too.
